Using mathematics to find the intersection of a line and plane,sphere,cone,cylinder etc is an extremely powerful technique for the sheet metal worker in that you can solve most of the transformer connections that are often encountered.

Also there's no reason why we can't attack the cone from any angle with the same mathematics. Figure 5 shows the cuboid parallel to the base of the cone.
